Jocelyn Lee

Nude with attitude

Jocelyn has 6 photographs included In the exhibition Nude with attitude. The Museum Arnhem shows how artists use the naked body to discuss themes such as freedom, identity and inequality. Participating artists include Sally Mann, The Gorilla Girls, Carolee Shneemann, Erwin Olaf, Nan Goldin, Laura Aguilar, Marlene Dumas, Viviane Sassen, Suzanne Valadon and others. 

Also: A review of The Haunted—Contemporary Photography Conjured in New England, a publication of Speedwell Projects.

Kinonik, Portland’s micro-cinema, continues to deliver a unique viewing experience. Check out the winter line-up of old films that relate to current times, including Cat People, Persona, Beat the Devil.

Kinonik co-founder Andy Graham has curated The Hidden Real, a photo exhibition at Space Gallery featuring Alan Bray, Tonee Harbert, Greg Jamie, June Kim, Anne Riesenberg, and Shoshannah White. On view March 6 to April 18 with an opening reception March 6 from 5pm to 8pm.

The Center for Maine Contemporary Art is proud to announce Aaron T Stephan’s exhibition “Murmur,” facilitated by CMCA’s new Curator Grant Wahlquist. Following Stephan’s de- installation of the titular work, he and key collaborators will present a series of ticketed culinary performances, the details of which will be announced at a later date.

A series of interactive staged dinners conceptualized by Aaron T Stephan and Gabriela Acero.

tender is a night of exploration – presenting themes of comfort, discomfort, belonging, safety, autonomy, and selfhood through the lenses of space, place, food, and collective creation. The evening will emerge through constructed spaces that actively change and shift, evoking various public and private places, each with their own implications of belonging and acceptance. The food itself will serve as a bridge to childhood memories, ideas of ascribed value, and culturally informed moments of uncertainty.

James Parker Foley received a Kindling Fund grant from Space Gallery to support Ultraviolet Studio Project, his residency for trans artists at Light Manufacturing this summer. As part of an ongoing funding campaign, he's curating Infinite Games, a small group show in his apartment, including the work of fellow Cassidy Point artists Jessica Gandolf and Eleanor Anderson (above) as well as Matt Demers, Meg Hahn, Allison McKeen, Hannah Stoll, and Jimmy Viera.

Over twenty years of working independently in her studio in Maine while raising her own children, Hargrave has used the painting techniques of the old masters to create a world outside of time. Titled after an antiquated term for baby teeth, present for only a few fleeting years between infancy and middle childhood, MILK TEETH is her first exhibition in New York. With these new paintings, Hargrave reimagines the non-time of youth.

Light Manufacturing

Light Manufacturing at Cassidy Point is dedicated to supporting emerging Maine artists whose work benefits from temporary access to a large space.

Current collaborator Tessa Greene O’Brien — an artist and curator— is using Light Manufacturing as a studio for the creation of large scale work that will be exhibited this spring in New York. Join us on April 12 from 4pm to 6pm to see the work before it heads to New York.
